Ernest Miller Teaching

Process & Philosophy | Biography | Teaching | Faq’s

I currently teach ceramics at two different art education centers in the Twin Cities. Students of all levels are welcome.

For students new to ceramics, we begin by learning the fundamental basics of throwing on the potter’s wheel. Students will have the opportunity to learn how to throw cups, bowls, plates, vases, jars, and goblets, among many other pieces. We will also cover the basics of glazing ceramic pieces. All work is made of stoneware clay and fired in a high fire kiln to 2300 degrees fahrenheit.

More experienced students will have the opportunity to further develop their throwing skills. We will work on more complicated pieces as well as various glazing and firing techniques. Though classes are wheel based, we will also cover hand building with slabs and coiling. Use of an extruder and slab roller will be demonstrated and used for specific projects.
